Pohon sagu merupakan tumbuhan yang tak perlu dipelihara khusus, tapi rumitnya memanen pati sagu, membuat harga tepung sagu menjadi lebih mahal dibandingkan beras. Sebagai tanaman konsumsi, sagu tumbuh di hutan, bukan di kebun. Untuk dapat dipanen tepungnya, harus ditunggu sampai sebatang pohon sagu berumur setidaknya sekitar 8-12 tahun. &lt;br /&gt;

Memanen sagu dalam prosesnya membutuhkan air yang banyak. Karena itu, harus dilakukan saat musim hujan. Secara tradisional memanen sagu tak memerlukan butuh banyak alat. Sebagian malah bisa dibuat di tempat, termasuk pemarut dan penumbuk. Meski sekarang kebanyakan sudah pakai mesin, bahkan ada yang menggunakan &amp;#039;&amp;#039;chainsaw&amp;#039;&amp;#039; daripada kapak. &lt;br /&gt;

== Makanan dari Sagu ==&lt;br /&gt;
Tepung sagu bisa dibikin menjadi bubur sagu dan berbagai makanan olahan lainnya. Antara lain yang dikenal adalah &amp;#039;&amp;#039;sinole&amp;#039;&amp;#039;. Bentuknya mirip seperti tiwul di Jawa atau nasi kering. Dibuat dengan menyangrai campuran tepung sagu dan parutan kelapa, yang diberi air dan garam. &amp;#039;&amp;#039;Sinole&amp;#039;&amp;#039; dimakan bersama taburan gula aren. Atau, sebagai teman ikan bakar, makanan spesial di daerah timur. &lt;br /&gt;
